How to Turn Daydreaming into Doing

Quigs here!

We’ve all been there. Completely entranced by the world we’ve created inside our heads: amazing career, loving relationship, perfect life. Sounds blissful, right?! And then snap - we’re back to reality. I can speak from personal experience and say it feels overwhelming when you’re at the starting line of this journey. How can you make your wildest dreams appear in front of you? It’s a beautiful thing to be a dreamer, and when we also become a doer, we are unstoppable.

1. Recognize you are in control

One of the first lessons I learned was I held the power to change my life - and me alone. I could conspire with a Greater Good, but if I didn’t decide to act on the things I desired, it wasn’t going to fall into my lap. How did I get started? I listened to myself. I weeded through the expectations set by other people until I arrived at the heart: what I really wanted for my life. Sit down and have a conversation with yourself, with your soul. By discovering what you’re working toward and how it’ll make you feel, you unite your mind, body, and soul.

2. Do your homework (and stay focused!)

It’s going to take hard work. Any goal you are aspiring to reach is going to require understanding and preparation. When you learn what it takes to get there, you can build the stairs that you need to climb. Research, reach out to mentors, establish a plan. Set S.M.A.R.T. goals for yourself, so you can see progress. When I started content creation, I would reach out to other creatives I looked up to: sometimes they would respond, sometimes they wouldn’t. The insight I received I paired with my own research to create a detailed, categorized plan. I wrote down everything, I mean everything, so I could track my progress and not feel overloaded by my goal.

3. Keep the faith

“Rome wasn’t built in a day.” “Nothing worth it is easy.” I could rattle a long list of cliché sayings about hard work and determination, but guess what?! They’re true! No one said it would be easy. In fact, it will most likely be the opposite. Dreams are meant to push us, scare us even. Don’t ever think you’re not capable. The skill you’ll use most on this journey is positivity. Write mantras on sticky notes and place them around your workspace. Whenever you have a setback or breakthrough, I want you to find one quote that works for you and say it out loud. Your dreams are even more glorious than Rome, so sit tight and be kind to yourself.
