A Weekend Away in Monterey
It’s not a secret that I LOVE traveling. And it’s also not a secret that I absolutely adore HBO’s TV show “Big Little Lies” (I’ve re-watched it multiple times and read the book). So when the opportunity to travel to Monterey and visit all the major film locations from the show popp’ed up in my inbox-my suitcase basically packed it’s self for me!!!
First stop on our list of places to visit was the Garrapata State Beach and Bixby Creek Bridge. You know that amazing theme intro to the show where Michael Kiwanuka’s voice gives you goosebumps while singing ‘Cold Little Heart’? —all while showing you footage of waves crashing and cars driving over this beautiful bridge?? Yeah, that’s where we were-and it’s just as beautiful in real life!!

Next on the schedule- we did some light hiking to get to this beautiful outlook over the McWay Falls at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.
Then on the way back I made our driver pull over at this magnificent spot on the side of the PCH. HOLY GUACAMOLE-let me tell you, all the flowers were in bloom!!!
After a full day of exploring, we ended the night with dinner at California Market at Pacific’s Edge (the same spot where Celeste Wright-Nicole Kidman’s character- enjoyed her evening’s), and then tucked-in for a cozy night’s sleep at The Getaway.
On our second day in Monterey, we began with a bicycle tour of the Fisherman’s Wharf and Point Lobos with Big Sur Adventures! Definitely worked up an appetite with all the biking and sight-seeing, so I was happy to take a break with a bite to eat at Palace Trattoria! This restaurant was the set design inspiration for Blue Blues Café-the place where Nicole Kidman’s, Reese Witherspoon’s, and Shailene Woodley’s characters often meet for coffee.Afterwards we explored Lovers Point Park & Beach with beautiful views of the shoreline & salt-scented sea breezes!
The next day, we had a tour of Folktale Winery & Vineyards where I shamelessly let my inner wine geek out and taste tested all the flavors of Monterey!! Not sure if it was the lull of the ocean or the wine that put me to sleep-but either way my bed at The Sanctuary had me past out like a baby!!
Thank you Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau for letting me live out my dream of being inside an episode of Big Little Lies!! Definitely can’t wait to come back and catch the next TV series’s season!
